Can I bend or curve a radiator to fit my bay or alcove?

Yes, there are a number of engineering companies in the UK that specialise in angular bending and curving of radiators.

What do I need to do?

You will need to provide: -

• An accurate template of the bay or alcove usually made out of a roll of wallpaper backing paper.
• The type and size of radiator i.e. double or single panel etc
• The length, height and manufacture of the radiator.

Don't forget you can't bend top grilles! And allow enough clearance for your radiator valves when choosing and siting your radiator.

What about a guarantee?

Radiator manufacturers usually guarantee their products for a minimum of 5 years. This guarantee will become void if a radiator bending/shaping company alters the radiator. Note: some paint damage may occur when curving radiators; and bending radiators will normally require a repair weld.

Specialists will normally guarantee their own work for a period of time this will need to be checked on an individual basis. You will need to prove however that the system has been properly cleaned and flushed and that a suitable inhibitor has been added to protect the system.

How do I get the radiator to the specialist and back to me?

Most specialists are able to recommend a courier that they use on a regular basis. Purchase the radiator and send it, or alternatively most specialists will purchase the specified radiator for you, bend it then courier the finished radiator down to you. Another alternative is to ask your local radiator stockist, they may have an arrangement with a specialist to bend and courier the radiator.
