Surprisingly, there are numerous situations present
in our own homes that cause backflow contamination. Backflow
contamination is where the normal flow of our safe drinking
water supply is reversed, allowing contaminated water to enter
our drinking water supply.
These situations are an ever-present threat to our family's
health and welfare. Ironically, the ordinary garden hose is
the most common offender as it can be easily connected to
the mains water supply and used for a variety of potentially
dangerous applications.
Garden hoses are used for a variety of purposes
including spraying weed killer, garden feeds and filling fish
ponds. These situations are potentially dangerous because if
the pressure was lost in the mains water supply, by a burst
or the fire brigade practicing the contents of your fish pond
or weed killer container could be sucked back into the mains
causing contamination not only to your own supply but to the
whole street or town.

The new Water Regulations stipulate that with
a new external tap installation for garden use, a double check
valve must be installed inside the building to protect the mains
water supply from the dangers of backflow.
Where a hose pipe is to be used from an existing water tap
located outside the building a double check valve needs to
be installed either by:
Fitting a double check valve on the internal pipework.
Replace the complete tap with a new one that incorporates
a double check valve.
Or the easiest way to protect your family against the
risk is to install the Nobak Triton valve; a double check
valve which simply fits onto your existing tap.
The Nobak Triton Valve is the first double check
valve to be WRAS approved.
It complies with all regulations, prevents contamination
and is easy to fit. Suitable for most tap connections, the
tough non-corrosive body will provide lasting protection and
piece of mind. The hose connects using standard hose pipe
connections.
